The Cheltenham African Alliance and our Inaugural Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Festival is held on the grounds of Cheltenham High School.
*
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, traveled to Galveston, Texas, to announce to over 250,000 enslaved people that they were free.
*
We will celebrate Juneteenth by recognizing the accomplishments, and contributions made by people of color across the diaspora.
It will be a day of cultural experiences as we reflect, celebrate, fellowship and learn from local poets, dance performers, musicians and more. Food and beverage trucks will be available and all activities are free and open to the public!
It is our hope that you would consider joining and sharing your gift.
